1. Global Architecture shows pictures of the estate, the interior and a plan, and a short paragraph about the interior. It talks about how the colorful walls and neat toys bring a snappy rhythm.

2. The Place of Houses has a detailed analysis on the structure of the Moore/Andersson. It talks about how the carved walls form an ellipse. It talks about the outside, such as the pool, and the inside, such as all the decor like toy houses and kachina dolls.

Website Review: Articles and what I learned from them

1. NY Times' article over Charles Moore's house was interesting. I learned that this is the eighth house that he built for himself. Also, the house wasn't built up from the ground but remodeled from a 1930's home. As well, what I thought was most intriguing is that most rooms are open spaces and not private but his bedroom is hidden in the house.

2. His website shares a lot of information about him. Moore started his education in architecture at age 16 at the University of Michigan. He got his masters and Ph.D. at Princeton in 3 years and has taught at many universities including UT Austin. Moore’s personal and professional archive is located in Battle Hall.

Video

This video shows all the intricate stuff inside the house that shows different cultures like Hopi Kachina dolls and folk masks, and the niches and the different sets of rhythm and color shown.

Flickr photo cache ~ What I saw that was interesting

This corridor leads you directly to the pool, showing dominance of pool

The lines of the arches cut the light to make a cool effect

The orthogonal parallel lines of the shelves, stairs, and windows too add a balance

The organization of the white columns

None of the lines on the column of the shelf match up with another column

Google Earth Setting

Google Earth
This is an urban setting, right next to a state highway. It is in the middle of a neighborhood with many trees and grass near. It seems from this angle that there could be a change in elevation throughout the picture.

Plan and Section, Sketch

This is the view from when you open the doors to the outside, the corridor leads you directly to the pool.
